My name is Antonio, I was born in Nice (not Monferrato, the one in France), on December 3, 1920.
My father Michele worked in a pasta factory, he took all types of pasta out of the laboratory and my mother Maria helped him with sweets: babà, sfogliatelle, ricce and the queen of Neapolitan sweets… the pastiera!
I was a happy child, in the morning I had breakfast with chocolate and croissants, the latter alternating them with mum's sweets and what a mum ... In the evening, after tucking me up and after dad's goodnight kiss, he would tell me stories, some invented, other times he opened a book and read ...
One of these, which I then always carried in my heart was Don Quixote ... I dreamed of Dulcinea and all the battles of that madman, who many, many years later I discovered that he was not mad!
The mother had only one defect, or rather she fell ill with a disease that was difficult to cure, she was assailed by an invincible melancholy for her Naples and her brothers ...
There was nothing Dad could do but leave the shop and go back to their land.
We left when mom was five months pregnant ... it was in the afternoon, I don't remember the day, the year, that yes ... it was 1925
