The Pineta

Arenzano overlooking the sea

In the second half of 1950, on the Arenzano west promontory, once a Mediterranean scrub forest, an architectural experimentation took place in order to create a residential dwelling camouflaged in the background vegetation.

Pineta di Arenzano was born: a private residential area, divided in construction compartments, with collective structures (a golf course, tennis courts, a riding school, a small business centre and a hotel with two swimming pools with annexed tourist port); the first holiday acropolis in Italy, was born.

The first building work started in early 1957 with the Hotel Residence Punta S. Martino signed by the architect team Gardella-Zanuso.

Many famous architects brought their creativity facing the themes of exploitation and protection of landscape assets.
